Marylu F. (Fanning) Stommel

Marylu F. Stommel, age 97, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the Becker-Shoop Center. Marylu was born in Kenosha on June 13, 1913, daughter of the late William and Emma L. (Nee: Cumiskey) Fanning.

Marylu was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1931.” On November 26, 1938, at St. Rose Catholic Church she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Russel J. Stommel, who preceded her in death on November 4, 1989. Marylu was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and former member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She was a charter member of the Catholic Junior League. Marylu was an avid bridge player who enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. She devoted her life to her family and more than anything she treasured the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Rosemary (Roger) Springsteen of Racine, Joseph A. (Kathy) Stommel of Pueblo, CO, Jean T. Stommel (Roy Starbeck) of Corvaillis, Oregon; her daughter-in-law, Nancy King of Racine; her grandchildren, Anne Moore, Susan Stommel, William (Renee) Stommel Jr., Katie (Dan) Hossalla, John (Nicole) Springsteen, Mark Springsteen, Michael Springsteen, Jed (Kirrily) Balestrieri, Jesse Stommel (Josh); 11 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, William F. Stommel and Rev. Russel J. Stommel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., with Rev. Ronald O. Crewe officiating. Private entombment will be held at Calvary Garden Crypts. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to the caregivers at the Becker-Shoop Center for their loving and compassionate care.
