Norbert F. Trottier

Norbert F. Trottier, age 86, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. One of eleven children, Norb was born June 10, 1924, in Escanaba, MI.

Norb served as a corporal in the 106th Infantry Division in the United States Army during World War II, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Shirley Mills on June 26, 1948, in Racine and they recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Norb was a vocalist with the Les Boeck Dance Band in the late 1940s under the stage name “Pierre,” and then worked as a newsman and announcer at WRJN Radio, and as host of the cable television program “In Racine.”

Norb also was quite active in community service organizations. He was an avid reader, especially of history, and greatly enjoyed crossword puzzles. Norb and Shirley sang in the choir at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. For several years, Norb read to the children at Janes Elementary School.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Shirley; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri (David) Swanson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Gail (Bruce Springsteen) Trottier of Lawrence, Kansas; his brother, Martin (Verla) Trottier of Decatur, IL; brother-in-law, Robert Thompson of Cornell, MI; sisters-in-law, Sally Trottier of Trevor, WI, Sue Mills of Racine, WI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 725 High St., with Rev. Susan K. Smith officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Health Care Network, 904 State St., Racine, WI 53402; Habitat for Humanity or a favorite charity.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at Ridgewood Care Center and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare for their loving and compassionate care of Norb.
