Sister Jane (Mary David) Kutchey, O.P.

Sister Jane Kutchey, O.P., 90, passed away at Siena Center, Racine, on Thursday, December 16, 2010.

Jane Lucille was born October 11, 1920, to Michael and Catherine (nee: Halmich) Kutchey in Royal Oak, MI. On August 29, 1938, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1939 she was given the religious name Sister Mary David. She professed her first vows in 1941 and her final vows in 1947. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Jane.

Sister Jane spent many years in service to others in teaching and administrative work. She began her ministry in 1940 at St. Joseph, Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were Holy Cross, Kaukauna; Sacred Heart, St. Catherine’s High School, Dominican College and Siena Center, Racine; Villa St. Anne, Oconomowoc; and Our Lady of the Oaks, Pewaukee. She also served in Michigan at Nativity, Detroit; St. Clement, Center Line; and Boysville, Clinton; and in Nebraska at St. Joseph Hospital, Osmond. When she moved to Racine in 1989 she worked in the Finance Office at Siena Center.

Sister Jane is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Raymond, Herman, Elmer, William, Richard and David; and her sister, Florence Grobbel.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Tuesday December 21, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
