Allen C. Buhler

Allen Clarence Buhler, age 88, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Racine on February 11, 1923, son of the late William and Amanda (Nee:Haas) Buhler.

Allen graduated from St. Catherine's High School “Class of 1940.” He furthered his studies at Marquette University, eventually earning a degree in Law. Allen served in the U. S. Army Infantry during WWII stationed in Europe, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant. On May 11, 1944, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Virginia M. Devine.

Allen was employed by S.C. Johnson as a Patent Attorney and then as the Head of the New Products Department. He left S.C. Johnson to develop a new dairy product and founded Butter Buds Food Ingredients. This company has grown and flourished with an extensive product line sold worldwide. Allen loved his business and continued to work into his 88th year. In 2000, he was honored with the St. Catherine's Alumni Hall of Fame Award in the area of business. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. When not at work, Allen enjoyed time spent with his golfing buddies, volunteering for hospital visitations and most of all he loved to spend time with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Virginia; six children, Lynn Buhler, William (Kam) Buhler, Ellen (Joseph) Albrecht, Laura (Michael) Palazzola, Thomas (Marcia) Buhler, John Buhler; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer and Natalie Buhler, Catherine (Dwight) Gilbertson, A.J. Albrecht, Sarah and Mary Underhill, Michael (Stephanie) Palazzola, Heather (John) Lemcke, Max, Grace, Alec and Stefan Buhler, Paul and Sean Buhler; a great granddaughter, Alaina Buhler; a brother, David (Edith) Buhler; sister-in-law, Ellen Devine (Joe Mandelert); nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann; two brothers, William and James; two sisters, Barbara (Jim) Murray and Amanda Buhler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Reverend Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. A private interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Family Cemetery on Hwy. 31 Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School, the Health Care Network, or RAM have been suggested.
