Elizabeth Ann 'Betty' (Karcher) Johnson

Elizabeth A. Johnson, age 68, passed away Easter Sunday April 24, 2011, surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Racine July 17, 1942, daughter of the late Arnold and Lillian (nee: Kueker) Karcher and was a lifelong resident,

Betty was a graduate of Park High School, “Class of 1960.” On September 16, 1961, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Gordon R. Johnson at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Betty was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church.

Betty will be remembered for her love of animals, especially cats, her devotion to her family as a softball coach for her children, Girl Scout leader, lifelong Avon Lady. Betty served as the “uniform lady” for the Racine Kilties, and was an avid Drum Corps fan. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of fifty years, Gordy; three children, Daniel (Kristine) Johnson, Rebecca (Robert) Remster, Jonathan (Wendy) Johnson; five grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Joshua, Adam and Rachel Ramczyk, and Amelia Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Johnson and Alexander Lopez; brother, Richard Karcher; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Shirley Johnson, David (Peggy) Johnson, Archie (Bonnie) Johnson, Elaine Johnson, Buck Johnson, Vicky (Allan) Young; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, James Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday April 28, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Mary Janz officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Memorials to the Hope Safe House have been suggested.
