Lusia F. (Vela) Rodriguez

Lusia F. Rodriguez, age 64, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011, at her residence. Lusia was born in Racine on August 20, 1946, daughter of Raul J. and Hermangilda (Nee: Yanez) Vela.

On July 31, 1987, she was united in marriage to Hugo Rodriguez. Lusia was employed by J.I. Case Company for thirty-two years, retiring in 2006, and belonged to their “20 Year Club.” She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed going to casinos. Lusia cherished time spent with her family and will forever be remembered for her strong love and devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her husband, Hugo; her daughters, Lydia Vela, Julie Vela; her grandchildren, Marina and Joseph, Micaela, Lusia, Gabriella, Samuel; one great-granddaughter, R’Monica; her mother, Hermangilda “Mary” Vela; her sisters, Gloria Aguilar, Angeline (Jesus) Ortega, Adeline (David) Hollis; brothers, David (Sue) Vela, Reynaldo (Linda) Vela; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Raul; and her brother-in-law, Miguel Aguilar.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m.
