Father Richard P. Beck

Father Richard P. Beck, 83, of Sarasota, formerly of Racine, WI,  died April 23. 2011.

Survivors include his sister, Barbara Kardos of Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Father Beck was born Nov, 3; 1927, in Racine, WI, to Joseph and Alma (Rasmussen) Benicek, the second of four children. He attended St. Francis de Sales Minor and Major Seminary in Milwaukee. He was ordained May 14, 1955, for the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

He served as parochial vicar at St. Joseph Parish, Cudahy, WI, and as pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Grafton, WI. In addition, he served 26 years as an active duty chaplain for the U.S, Navy; ministering in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, California, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Washington and Vietnam.

He retired from active ministry in the Navy in October 1989 and relocated to Florida where he served as parochial vicar of St. Patrick Parish, Sarasota. He retired from the Milwaukee Archdiocese in 1993 but continued to assist at St. Patrick Parish in Sarasota until August 2003.

Funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sarasota, Florida, with private entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32, Racine.
