Mrs. Violet (nee: Goodland) Nelson, 99, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Walnut Grove Assisted Living Center.
Violet was born in Racine on December 13, 1911, to the late John and Marie (nee: Ergish) Goodland. She was united in marriage to Orland J. Nelson on February 17, 1932. He preceded her in death in December 1982. She had been employed at Times Call which is now the Racine Journal Times. After her marriage, she was later employed at JI Case Company before her retirement in 1976. She was also an avid reader and walker and loved playing Bingo.
Violet will be dearly missed by her children, James (Nancy) Nelson of Effingham, IL, Carol (Thomas) McGuine of Woodstock, IL, and Roseanne Nelson of Racine; six grandchildren, Debbie, David, Betsy, J.B., Amy and Jim; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Hackler of Racine; three sister-in-laws, Kay Goodland, Jeanette Buckett, Vernell (Donald) Comstock; brother-in-law, Darrel (Violet) Nelson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Nelson; two brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services in memory of Violet will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 11 a..m. with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park at a later date. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
