Ruth I. (Long) Owens

Ruth I. Owens, age 61, died peacefully at her home Saturday morning, April 16, 2011, in the presence of her children and grandchildren. Ruth was born in Greensboro, Alabama, on January 1, 1950, daughter of the late Enoch and Willie Mae (Nee: Woods) Long Sr.

Ruth was a Law and Order fanatic, loved her gospel music, and enjoyed fishing. She did her best and let the Lord take care of the rest. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Arniessie Owens; her son, Christopher Owens, both of Portage, WI; her four grandchildren, Joseph Owens, Christopher F. Owens, Julian Owens, all of Portage, WI, Laticia Jones of Cudahy, WI; her great-grandson, Darrien Franklin; sisters and brothers, Isabella Benison of Greensboro, AL, Enoch (Joyce) Long Jr. of Racine, Eva Mae (Harry) Jones of Greensboro, AL, Rosie Lee Davis of Lansing, MI, Lula Rogers of Kenosha, Moses (Sue) Long of Iowa, Annie Long of Racine, Robert (Pamela) Long of Racine, Bobbie (David) Griggs of MI; brother-in-law, William Richardson of Chicago, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Fred “Poon” Owens Jr. on October 31, 1998; her granddaughter, Amasha Lee Mack; two infant siblings; and by her sister, Irene Richardson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Faith Christian Fellowship Church, 1200 Racine St., with Rev. Sheila Nienhaus officiating. Interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
