Dr. Madden attended William Horlick High School, St. Norbert College and Marquette University Medical School. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps His specialty training was taken at the Milwaukee County General Hospital, now known as the Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee. He spent his years as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist with the Kurten Medical Group, of which he was one of the original founders, and retired in 1986.
Dr. Madden was very active in community and medical organizations, serving on boards of many social service agencies and hospital staffs in addition to many medical societies. He was a member of the Racine Country Club and was an avid golfer. Other hobbies included music, gardening, reading and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. Above all, his passions were his wife, his family, friends, golf and Racine residents.
Survivors include his sons, Dennis (Suzanne), John (Rose); granddaughters, Amy (Bryant) Davis, Paula (Matthew) Andersen, Anne (Josh) Pudelko and Megan Reeves; as well as seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary McNally; nieces, nephews and many dear friends. In addition to Helen, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Maureen; brothers, Lester, Roy, Joseph, Tom, Richard and Robert; and sister, Kathleen Cooper.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., Racine, with Rev. Jack Flynn, OSA, officiating, assisted by Deacon Russell Missureli. Private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Care Network have been requested.
