Frederick J. Bokun

Frederick John Bokun, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.  Fred was born in Chicago, IL, on September 30, 1940, son of the late Henry and Alice (Nee:  Weber) Bokuniewicz.

He graduated from Fenwick High School “Class of 1958” and enlisted in the United States Army.  Returning from the service, Fred obtained a degree in journalism from the University of  Illinois, Champaign/Urbana.  On August 29, 1964 in Bellwood, IL, he was united in marriage to Joyce M. Walker.  He began his career as a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times and eventually relocated to Kansas City, MO, where he worked as Manager of Public Relations at Hallmark Cards.  Moving to Racine in the summer of 1989, he was employed by Communication Concepts Unlimited until his retirement in 2003.     Fred was a former parishioner and member of the hand bell choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  He enjoyed playing the piano and tutoring at Roosevelt Elementary School.   Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-nine years, Joyce; his children, Scott (Michele) Bokun of Lexington, MA, Susan (Robert) Neil of Libertyville, IL; his grandchildren, Abigail and Lillian Bokun, Brittany, Bobby and Rebecca Neil; brothers, Henry (Linda) Bokuniewicz of Greenlawn, NY, David (Audrey) Bokuniewicz of Naperville, IL; sister-in-law, Georgette Walker of Littleton, CO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Bokuniewicz; and brother-in-law, Martin Walker.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ricardo Martin officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m.  Private interment will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the medical and support staff at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital and Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
