Robert F. Miller

Robert F. Miller passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013, at the William Middleton Veteran’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, surrounded by his family.  Bob was born on June 23, 1932, to Arthur W. and Margaret (Smith) Miller and resided in West Haven, CT, during his youth.  He was a member of the first graduating class of Notre Dame High School in 1950, and upon graduation attended the University of Connecticut.  From 1951 to 1955, he served as an electrician’s mate in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain.

While attending school at the Great Lakes Navel Station, Bob met the love of his life, Clarice Roberts, in Milwaukee, WI.  Claire and Bob were married on July 21, 1956, at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet, MI, where they resided until 1959 when he graduated from Michigan Technological University with a BSEE degree.  Bob lived in Bowling Green, Ohio, and Milwaukee but finally settled in Racine with his family in 1974 where he resided until recently moving to Middleton, WI, in July 2013.

Bob worked as a design engineer with Cutler Hammer and T.L. Smith and later as an engineering manager with Modine, Trent Tube and Peter Albrecht.  He founded R.F. Miller and Associates in 1987 and worked on complex engineering projects including the implementation of the computer control system at the Milwaukee Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Bob was a registered Professional Engineer in several states, a life member of IEEE, and was issued several patents.

In retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.  He especially enjoyed a cruise he and Claire took through the Panama Canal.  He also volunteered his time as an owner’s representative on two construction projects in Racine: St. Paul the Apostle Church and the HALO homeless shelter.

He was an active member of the St. Paul the Apostle parish, a 4th Degree member in the Knights of Columbus, and also a member of the Serra Club.

He is survived by his loving wife Claire; two sons, James (Mary Jo) of Green Bay, WI, and Richard of Kona, Hawaii; two daughters, Mary (Marc) Lipari of Chaska, MN, and Maureen (Mike) Domanico of Middleton, WI; and one daughter-in-law, Dana Miller of Racine, WI.  Bob is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Tara, Kaitlin, David, Megan, Tony, Drake, Nicole, Sarah, Destiny, Nicholas, Lauren and Robert; and one great-grandchild, Abigail.  He is also survived by two brothers, Arthur (Martha) of Stratford, CT, and Alan (Jeanne) of Palm Coast, FL; three sisters, Elizabeth (James) Danehy of West Haven, CT, Margaret Crisci of Hamden, CT, and Rosemary (Robert) Hanson of West Haven, CT; brother-in-law, Gordon Roberts of Calumet, MI; and sister-in-law, Roberta Jacques of Green Bay, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles (Dana); brother-in-law, Robert Crisci; brother, Richard; sister-in-law, Eleanor Miller; brother-in-law, James Jacques; and brother-in-law, James Roberts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6400 Spring St., on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Terrence Heubner and Rev. William Dietzler officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet Wednesday at the church from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
