John E. Hayes, age 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2013, with his family at his side in Venice, Florida. John was born in Madison on November 7, 1936, son of the late Hugh E. and Kathleen E. (Nee: Ronan) Hayes.
On August 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Barbara K. Murphy. John graduated in 1960 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He held various engineering and management roles during his thirty-five-year career with Modine Manufacturing Company. John retired in 1995. He was a longtime and active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church serving as chairman of the church finance committee. John loved to travel, was an avid skier and golfer belonging to Meadowbrook Country Club and Venice Golf and Country Club. He treasured time spent with his family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Barbara; his children, Timothy (Marily Guarton) Hayes of NJ, Jeffrey Hayes of Racine, Christopher (Lisa) Hayes of Oregon, WI, Mary (David) Richter of Brookfield; daughter-in-law, Dianne Hayes of Racine; 12 grandchildren, Kelly-Marie McCartney, Alexa (Michael) Ortiz, Brigitte Hayes, Sean (Ana) Hayes, Kelly (Jon) Blickle, Katherine and Rachel Hayes, Ronan and Finn Hayes, John, Matthew and Elizabeth Richter; one great-grandson, Colin Blickle; sister, Mary Tomlinson of Des Moines, IA; brothers, Jim (Anita) Hayes of Green Bay, Hugh (Jackie) Hayes of Madison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating. Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to Froedtert Hospital-Parkinson Clinic, Edgewood High School, Madison, or to St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
