Robert D. Leutner

Robert D. Leutner, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at his residence.  Mr. Leutner was born June 16, 1920, in Racine and was a lifelong resident, except for 3 ½ years when he served in the Army Air Corps as a Budget and Fiscal Captain.

He was united in marriage to Virginia “Gene” Anderson on September 23, 1942 in Racine.  Mr. Leutner graduated Wm Horlick High School in February of 1937, received a B.S. Degree in Business Administration in 1942 from Marquette University, where he was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit National Scholastic Honors Society, and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.  He subsequently earned an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Mr. Leutner was employed at Belle City Malleable Iron Co. (later known as Racine Steel Castings Co.) for 40 years, retiring in 1982 as Senior Vice-President for Finance and Administration.  He was a charter member and past president of the Racine Chapter National Association of Accountants (now known as the Institute of Management Accountants).

Mr. Leutner had been a member of the Board of Directors of St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine and served as Chairman of the Board from 1975 through 1979.  He was a past president of the Racine Manufacturers Association Accounting Group, served on the Budget Committee for the Racine United Way, and was a member of the Milwaukee Chapter National Office Management Association. Mr. Leutner was a member and officer on the Racine Chamber of Commerce, and was on the committee that was involved in the merger of the Racine Chamber of Commerce with the Racine Manufacturers Association into what is now known as RAMAC.   Mr. Leutner‘s main hobby was playing piano and organ.  He was a charter member, past president and treasurer of the Dairyland Chapter of the American Theater Organ Society.  That chapter made him an honorary member in 2001.

During his retirement, Mr. Leutner was a member of the Volunteer Corps of Lincoln Lutheran where he served as organist for chapel services for twelve years, and during this period, he served as treasurer of Good Shepherd Health Systems headed by the late Rev. Dr. Belter.  Mr. Leutner was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, where he served as Vice-President of the Church Council, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and member of several committees.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; parents, William and Olga Leutner; brother, William Jr.; sister in-law, Ellen Leutner; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Vernon Fox; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leslie and Joan Anderson.  He is survived by his daughter, Carole Novick and son-in-law Lloyd Novick of Stamford, CT; grandchildren, Sara Simpson (Neal) of Westport, CT, Ethan Novick of Great Barrington, MA; great-grandsons, Alex and Liam Simpson; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., on Friday, November 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Warren Williams officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.  Private interment with full military honors will be held at Graceland Cemetery.  Memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church have been suggested.
