Thomas J. LaFleur, age 88, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Thomas was born in Milwaukee, WI, on June 30, 1925, son of the late Frederick and Marjorie (Nee: Madden) LaFleur.
Thomas attended St. Patrick Grade School, served as senior class president of St. Catherine’s graduating “Class of 1943” and attended Marquette University. On August 27, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Racine, he was united in marriage to LaVerne C. Freres. Through the years, Thomas was employed by Western Printing, Webster Electric and other various ad agencies. He was last employed at Reiman Publishing Associates until his retirement in 1991.
A writer at heart, he also authored children’s books. Thomas was a longtime and active member of St. John Nepomuk, where he served on the parish council and other church committees. He also served as past president and member of the Racine Advertising Club. He will be fondly remembered for his love of music and books, and his great love and devotion to his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-four years, LaVerne; his children, Thomas LaFleur of Verona, Timothy LaFleur of Harpers Ferry, WV, Mary Kay (Richard) Sheforgen, Maureen (Dennis) Steeves, Monica (Gregory) DaPra, all of Racine; son-in-law, Rick (Diane) Johannes of Oregon, WI; 11 grandchildren, Marc (Dawn) Sheforgen, Jason Johannes, Erin (Bryan) Crossland, Dominic (Kelly) DaPra, Elizabeth (Brian) Williams, Joel (Nicole) DaPra, Daniel (Jamie) DaPra, Gina DaPra, Andy Steeves, Nick Steeves, Richard LaFleur; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Freres of VT; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia; son, Ted; and grandson, Anthony.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St., with Rev. Don Zerkel officiating. Entombment will be follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church or to St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
