Dorothy M. (Stindle) McGrath

With her family by her side, Dorothy M. McGrath , age 91, of Racine, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Dorothy was born in Racine on October 11, 1920, the sixth of six children to the late Benedict and Frances (Nee: Sys) Stindle.

Dorothy graduated from Wm Horlick High School. On October 10, 1942, she was united in marriage to John T. McGrath on the Marine base in San Diego, CA, and shared 63 beautiful years together before he preceded her in death June 6, 2006. Dorothy was a longtime member of St. John Nepomuk Church and a past member of Parish Life Ministry. She actively supported veterans and was a member of VFW 1391 Auxiliary, member and past president of 10301 Auxiliary, American Legion 310 Auxiliary, and the Marine Corps League Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading, her monthly card clubs and saying the rosary. She will be remembered for making “the world’s best cheesecake.” Her passion was raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her six children, Stephen (Jeanine) McGrath of Racine, Barbara Grygera of Racine, John F. (Nancy) McGrath of Greer, SC, Thomas (Sandra) McGrath of Kenosha, William (Susan) McGrath of Racine, Patricia (Joseph) DiBiase of Kenosha; 13 grandchildren, Margaret, Marilyn, Michel, Timothy, Jonathan, Teresa, Shawn, Patrick, Meghann, Daniel, Nathan, Emily and Crystal; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Diane McGrath and Ellen Benton; her good friend and neighbor, Donna; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ben, Jack, Ed and Frank; a sister, Frances; and her great-granddaughter, Kaylee Grygera.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 700 English St., on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Don Zerkel officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (Prayer Vigil 7 p.m.) and Wednesday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass.
