Mary Ann C. (Matranga) Parise

Surrounded by her loving family, Mary Ann C. Parise, age 90, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at her residence.  Mary Ann was born in Racine on October 23, 1923, daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Nee:  DeMathew) Matranga.

On April 12, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Michael J. Parise, who preceded her in death on November 1, 1999.  At age 12  Mary Ann began her employment at Matranga’s Supermarket and worked there for over fifty years, retiring in 1987 as head cashier and supervisor.

She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.   Mary Ann always placed others' needs before her own and willingly lent a helping hand.  She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her family and friends.  Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her son, Michael Parise of Racine; her daughters, JoAnn Knutson of Racine, Jude Parise of West Hollywood, CA; her grandson, Eric Knutson of Racine; her great-grandson, Anthony M. Knutson; sister, Lucille (John) Guilbault of Racine; brother-in-law,  Alfred  Parise of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret (Frank) Rondoni, Rose (Tony) Bonanno; and brothers, Joseph (Marie) Matranga, and Peter (Helen) Matranga; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Genevieve Tatman, Ida (Russell) Sesto, Dorothy (Jack) Van Swol, Rose Lanis, Eleanor (Melvin) Jacobson and Catherine Parise.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Kevin Mullins O.S.A. officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.   Memorials to the family have been suggested.
