Lawrence 'Larry' J. Johnson

Lawrence “Larry” J.  Johnson, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at his residence.  Lawrence was born in Racine on January 26, 1925, son of the late Gordon and Ann (Nee:  Heidenreich) Johnson.

During World War II he proudly served in the Merchant Marines.  On June 1, 1946, he was united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by his brother, Rev. Gordon Johnson, to Marie Greco.  Larry retired after twenty-five plus years from Piggly Wiggly as Manager in Racine and Kenosha stores.  He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.   Larry’s life revolved around family and his children.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Marie; his children, Mark S. Johnson and Lynn M. Johnson; brother, Louis Johnson; brother-in-law, John (Sarah) Greco; sister-in-law, Ruth Greco; and many, many, dear nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Patrick  Bever.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Gordon Johnson, Edward (Charlotte) Johnson,  Earl (Ione) Johnson; sisters, Violet (Jack) McCarthy, Mabel (Pete) Psculus, Sr. Dorothy Johnson; and brother-in-law, Robert Greco; and sister-in-law, Dolores Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ricardo Martin officiating.  Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.
