Marie C. Dederich, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation, Burlington. Marie was born in Racine on February 15, 1919, daughter of the late Victor and Catherine (Nee: Mueller) Braun.
Marie attended Herzog Grade School in Racine County, a one-room, one-teacher school. She went on to high school at St. Catherine’s, where she graduated with honors in 1936. Her first job was at Massey Harris, where she worked as a production secretary. After four years, she moved on and was employed by Dr. Russell Kurten as his Office Manager. After thirty years in the medical field, Marie retired as Supervisor of medical records.
Marie was united in marriage to Frank J. Dederich in September of 1949; he preceded her in death on July 28, 1983. She was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church. Her pastimes included gardening, baking, bowling, golfing and playing cribbage and schafskopf. More than anything, she devoted her life to her family and cherished time spent with them, especially attending their sporting events. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children, John (Madeline) Dederich of Mundelein, IL, Robert (Rita) Dederich of Racine, Laurie (Daniel) Martindale of Wind Lake, Michael (Debbie) Dederich, Joseph (Kristy) Dederich, all of Racine; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Hubert Braun of Racine; sister-in-law, Lois Braun; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Braun; sister, Frances Doherty; sister-in-law, Jean Braun; brother-in-law, Roderick Doherty D.D.S.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Richard J. Molter and Rev. Bill Burkert concelebrating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to St. Edward Catholic Church or to Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, 199 Water St., 23rd Floor, New York, NY 10038.
