Zenobia Peppers passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 5, 2014. She was born August 30, 1932, to the union of the late Robert and Alma Horton in West, Mississippi.
Zenobia graduated from Durant High School in West, MS, where she was known for her impeccable basketball skills. In 1951 she married her high school sweetheart, Northern Peppers. To that union four children were born: Northern Peppers, III, LaVerna J. Peppers, Michael Peppers and Gregory D. Peppers. They were married 60 years before Northern passed away
Zenobia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.B. Baily to Bishop L.L. Kirby until her illness. Within the church she was an active member with Sunday School, the Nursing Guild, the Nursery Dept., landscaping the flowers around the church, Bible School, Volunteer receptionist, and countless other duties she deemed to do. Always smiling as a cheerful giver, she was always willing to assist and help others in need!
Zenobia worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for over forty years in Labor/Delivery. She will forever be remembered for her incredible skills as an O.B. Technician. “Peppers,” they called her, was the best! Zenobia was also known for her beautiful flowers around her yard. She loved gardening! Zenobia kept an immaculate house. She loved her home! More than anything, Zenobia enjoyed watching her children grow and develop. Zenobia and her only daughter were two peas in a pod! She will be dearly missed.
Zenobia is survived by her four children, Northern Peppers III of CA, LaVerna J. Peppers of Racine, Michael (Rosalind) Peppers of Oak Creek, and Greg (Cindy) Peppers of Racine; two grandsons, Michael D. Peppers Jr, and Gregory D. Peppers Jr; her sister, Jereldean Rodgers; and her loving caregiver, Helen Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Moore; and brothers, Oscar, Eugene, George and Willie Horton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the New Omega Baptist Church, 5731 Northwestern Ave., with Pastor Fred Richmond officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service.
The family wishes to give special thanks to caregivers and dear friends, Helen and Rodney Clark, caregivers, Lavida Martin, Linda, Trina, Jay, Karen, Monica and Hospice Alliance of Kenosha.
