Donald R. Heckel

Surrounded by his loving family, Donald R. Heckel, age 67, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Donald was born in Racine on July 16, 1943, son of the late Alfred and Della (Nee: Wade) Heckel.

Don attended William Horlick High School and served in the United States Army. On November 3, 1962, he was united in marriage to Vicky E. Nielsen. He was employed by Zizzo’s Trucking for many years and was a member of the NRA. His passions included science, pro audio/video, astronomy, Green Bay Packers and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed his wife’s homemade potato pancakes and french fries, but above all he loved and cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Vicky; his four children, Tami Heckel, Holli Miller, Donald Heckel, Heather (Rick) Erickson; his grandchildren, Jordan Hulsey (Ashley Robash), Alexis and Alyssa Krall, Madilyn and Hannah Miller, Haley and Cameron Erickson; sisters, Gini Musil, Peggy Mickelsen; brothers-in-law, Larry (Janice) Nielsen, Dave (Judy) Nielsen; special cat, Annie; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Audrey) Heckel; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Pearl Nielsen; brothers-in-law, Lee Nielsen, Ray Musil, Wayne Mickelsen; nephews, Barry Nielsen and Dickie Musil.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 7 p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 4701 Erie St., with Rev. Terry McGugan officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church from 5 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church have been suggested.
