Mary Ann (Marshall) Kaplan

Mary Ann Kaplan, age 89, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.. She was born In Glasgow, Scotland, on November 17, 1921 daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Nee: Murphy) Marshall.

During WWII in England she met Elmer A. Kaplan and on December 31, 1943, they were united in marriage. They shared 66 years together before Elmer passed away last August 18. Mary was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping, knitting, reading and on ocassion a little gambling. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Catharine Ann (Nolan “Ben”) Bender of Racine; grandson, Jeff Bender of Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandsons, James Bender and his mother Lisa Bender of Kenosha, Alex Bender, US Navy of Norfolk, VA, Matthew (Michele) Dawson U.S. Navy of Pensacola, FL; sisters-in-law, Marcille Janowski and Ida Kaplan of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her grandson, Brian Bender; great-granddaughter, Amanda Victoria Bender; a brother, Joseph Marshall; and two sisters, Catherine (Tom) McGowan and Margaret (Bryn) Partridge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 8, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Kevin Mullins officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints ER and ICU Staffs, Nurse Jennifer and Chaplain Loretta for their loving and compassionate care.
