Eau Claire - Zenon M. Smolarek, 93, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011, at Grace Willowbrook Assisted Living in Eau Claire.
Zenon was born in Racine to the late Walter and Lucy (nee: Plonska) Smolarek on April 25, 1918. He was united in marriage to Agnes Habeck in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on July 13, 1940. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1994.
Mr. Smolarek was a manufacturing engineer licensed in California and Wisconsin. He was employed at Dumore Co. as a Tool Room Foreman for 39 ½ years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Society of Manufacturing Engineers Chapter #2, National Society of Professional Engineers - Southeast Chapter, and Hicks & Chicks Square Dancing Club. His hobbies included fishing, boating, metal working, working in his machine shop, inventing, digital photography and video recording, personal computing, and helping friends and neighbors.
Zenon will be dearly missed by his son, Dr. Zenon T. Smolarek, Professor Emeritus U.W. Stout of Menomonie; grandson, Zenon J. (Karen) Smolarek of Cedar Falls; granddaughter, Julie Ann (Jeff) Pollard of Corvallis, OR; brother and sister-in-law, Walter A. (Victoria) Smolarek of South Milwaukee; sister, Rahela Ludwig of Cleveland, Ohio; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services in honor of Zenon will be held at Wilson Funeral Home in Racine on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until the time of service. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.
