Margaret “Peggy” M. Culotta, age 88, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Willowcrest Care Center, South Milwaukee, WI. Peggy was born in Racine, June 6, 1923, daughter of the late Jerome J. and Rose I. (Nee: Welden) Foley.
Peggy was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, Milwaukee, “Class of 1941.” Furthering her education, she received her degree as a Registered Nurse from Marquette University. Throughout her nursing career Peggy was employed by St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield Hospital and, lastly, St. Mary’s Hospital, Racine, for thirty-five years. On June 2, 1951, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Frank J. Culotta, who preceded her in death on March 7, 2006. She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.
Survivors include her children, Peggy Surendonk of Racine, John (Jennifer) Culotta of Baraboo, Mark T. (Carol) Culotta of Racine; her three grandchildren, John (Liz) Surendonk, Meg (Steve) O’Connell, and Jackie Culotta; her great-grandchildren, Maddy and Jack Surendonk; brother, Edmund (Patricia) Foley; sisters-in-law, Karolyn Foley, Ruth Foley, both of Racine, Sarah Jensen of Germantown, Deidra “Dolly” Smith of CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Jerome Foley, John Foley, Rosemary (Al) Stopar; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn Jensen, Bill Smith, Jim (Harriet) Culotta, and Salvatore Culotta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 14, 21011, at noon at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at church from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon. Memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
