Rita O. Vance, age 91, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Ridgewood Care Center. Rita was born in Racine on November 2, 1919, daughter of the late Frank H. and Josephine (Nee: Lui) Seitz.
On August 31, 1940, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church she was united in marriage to John D. Vance Sr., who preceded her in death on February 28, 1979. Rita and her family owned and operated Vance’s Bar for over forty years. She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, St. Catherine’s Guild, and Catholic Order of Foresters. More than anything, Rita cherished and loved being with her family. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children, Jack (Carol) Vance of Sturtevant, Larry (Debbie) Vance of Franksville, Margaret (James) Reschke of Racine; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Vance of Sturtevant; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Lois (LeRoy) Dahlen of Racine; sisters-in-law, Connie Vance of Racine, Betty Seitz of Oak Creek; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Vance; brothers, Myron Seitz, Robert Seitz; sisters, Mae Muleski, Eleanor Seitz, Cathy (Don) Aiken.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3100 95th St., with Rev. Paul L. Raczynski officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society have been suggested.
