Arlene Joyce Rygh

CALEDONIA – Arlene Joyce (nee: Streuli) Rygh, 84, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at her residence. She was born in Kenosha on August 5, 1924, the daughter of William and Edna (nee: Kling) Streuli.

Arlene was united in marriage to Mervin S. Rygh at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington on February 19, 1944. She was a Charter Member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church and attended Calvary Memorial Church for many years. After graduation from Union Grove High School she graduated from Beauty Culture School in Milwaukee. Arlene retired after many years of service with Lutheran Social Services. She took great pride in her cooking and enjoyed gardening, bird watching and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Kay (Terry) Larsen of Racine and Beth (Kerry) Gister of Surprise, AZ; son and daughter-in-law; Randy (Laurie) Rygh of Racine; grandsons, Dale Larsen and Troy Larsen, both of Racine, Ryan (Alison) Gister of Aurora, IL, Mark (Allison) Gister of Tarzana, CA, Eric Rygh of Los Angeles, CA, Ken Rygh of Minneapolis, MN, Andrew Rygh and Grant Rygh, both of Racine, and Jon Connolly of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren, Dale, Brandon and Laikyn Larsen, Emma and Benjamin Connolly and Aidan Gister; nieces and nephews, Virginia Hazlett, Joan Dykstra, Doris Markert, Bunny Wakeman, Wanda Sjoblom, Karen Mattila, Nadine Sjoblom, Duane VanBuren, Allan Somers and Melodee Somers; sisters-in-law, Viola Streuli and Marion (Harry) Somers; and special cousin, Rich Kling. She is further survived by other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin, on November 22, 1991; granddaughter, Cortney Connolly on March 19, 2008; brothers, Alvin (Evelyn) Streuli and William Streuli; sister, Bernice (Lew) Williams.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Memorial Church, 4001 Washington Ave., on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Nathan James officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday evening from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday, before services from noon until time of service.
Memorials in Arlene’s memory have been suggested to Calvary Memorial Church or to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
