Robert D. Christensen

Robert D. Christensen, 83, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Tuesday, January 13, 2009.

Robert was born in Racine on September 1, 1925, to Felix H. and Ruth D. (nee: Sielaff) Christensen. He served his country in the United States Marines during WWII. Robert married Margaret Schuppe on December 30, 1960. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2007.

He was employed with WE Energies for 39 years until his retirement in 1987. Robert was a member of the Marine Corps League and was on the first Iwo Jima float to appear in the Racine Fourth of July Parade. He was a past member of the Racine Dairy Statesman and a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his children, Linda (Dave) Fox, Cheryl Betchkal, Gary (Kim) Reitsma, Cindy (Frank) Bodnar, and Jeffrey (Julie) Reitsma; 14 grandchilren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, David (Barbara) Christensen; sisters-in-law, Helen (Joe) Pulice, Marie (Russ) Luedtke and Hattie Schuppe; and brother-in-law, Robert (Venice) Schuppe. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. Christensen, Jr.; parents; aunt, Astrid Stewart; brother, Richard (Bernice) Christensen; sister, Marcele (Russ) Bindel; niece, Patty Bindel; brothers in law, Jacob (Dorothy) Schuppe, Henry (Dolly) Schuppe, Fritz (Mary) Schuppe, Al (Emma) Schuppe and George Schuppe; sister in law Katherine (Ernest) Jacobs.

Funeral Services for Robert will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 19, 2009, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mary Janz officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Care Center for their wonderful care and the Parkview Card Club for their friendship.
