Corinne I. Spika

Corinne I. (nee: Larkin) Spika, 82, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Aurora Hospital in Kenosha. She was born in LaCrosse on January 29, 1926, the daughter of Raymond M. and Isabelle (nee: Gerrard) Larkin.

On February 7, 1948, Corinne was united in marriage to James J. Spika in LaCrosse and they moved to Racine in 1959. Corinne was a graduate of Aquinas High School in LaCrosse and continued her education by taking various accounting classes. Corinne was a secretary for Walker Manufacturing Company, retiring on June 1, 1989, after 27 years of service.

She was a longtime faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a very proud member of Mission Ladies with whom she enjoyed quilting and crafting items for people in Franciscan villages around the world. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening and interacting with people in general. Corinne loved her Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and found great enjoyment in traveling with her sisters, especially to Ireland, France and Hawaii. Spending time with her family was especially important to her and she often opened her home for family gatherings.

Corinne is survived by her daughters, Margaret ‘Muggs’ (James) Westness of Dakota, MN, Beth (Martin) Roeseler and Karen (Jeff) Hess; son, Mark (Becky) Spika all of Racine; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Marianne Holinka of LaCrosse, Joan Kluck of Aurora, CO, Arlene (James) Thornton of LaCrosse and Cecilia (Larry) Miller of Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Susan Larkin and Catherine Larsen, both of LaCrosse. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Corinne was preceded in death by her husband, James, on December 28, 1996; parents; sister, Monica Lathrop; brothers, Pat Larkin and Gregory Larkin; son-in-law, Robert Hafner; grandson, Adam Spika; father-in-law and mother-in-law, August (Mary) Spika; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Spika and Arthur Larsen.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Crewe officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the Sturino Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday at church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, have been suggested by the family.
