Walter A. Bergemann

Walter A. Bergemann, age 95, passed away Saturday evening, January 10, 2009, at his residence. Walter was born in Racine on May 20, 1913, son of the late Frank and Bernadine (Nee: Gement) Bergemann.

During World War II Walter served in the United States Army Air Corps. On February 2, 1946, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Adeline A. Masik. Walter was employed by Racine Steel Castings for twenty-one years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church, Catholic Men’s Association, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Hell Hawks of the 365th Fighter Group. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Adeline; his three children, Edward J. (Roberta) Bergemann of Houston, TX, Mary Margaret (Bill) Coppernoll of Rochester, WI, and Jane Marie (Dennis) Haubrich of Pleasant Prairie, WI; eight grandchildren, Kristine (Garth) Marlow, Lynn (Stan) Lewis, Susan Venter, Angela (Dan) Hineline, Bill (Laura) Coppernoll, Peter Coppernoll, Caroline Coppernoll and Jennifer (James) Haubrich-Giannini; a brother, Joseph (Jeanne) Bergemann of Racine; sisters, Sr. Hope Bergemann O.P., Agnes (Peter) LaBrasca, all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Arthur F. Bergemann; seven brothers, Ferd, Matthew, Leonard, Francis, Clarence, Raymond and Bernard; and two sisters, Marianne Niesen and Sr. Faith Bergemann CSA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Drive, on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Stephen J. Stradinger officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to Siena Center or St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
