Joseph M. Hrpcek

Joseph M. Hrpcek, 77, passed away in St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee on Wednesday, January 14, 2009.

He was born in Racine on February 24, 1931, the son of the late Adam J. and Helen (nee: Zachar) Hrpcek.

Joe graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1950, where he earned 7 letters in various sports including starting center on the basketball team. He played organized basketball until he was 59 years old. Joe was an avid sports fan and also played golf, football, softball and baseball. He was a member of the St. Catherine’s Alumni Association.

Joe served his country as an M.P. in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from November of 1951 until November of 1953.

On February 19, 1955, he married the former Lois Ann Downie in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2006. On May 26, 2007, he married Lucille Dandeneau Kaskubar.

Joe worked at Massey-Ferguson for over 33 years, retiring on July 31, 1993.

He was a longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Joe will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille; his sons, Stephen (Kathy) Hrpcek of Racine, Scott (Jean) Hrpcek of Brighton, WI, and Jon Hrpcek of Somers; grandsons, Adam Hrpcek of Minneapolis, MN, and Mark Hrpcek of Norfolk, VA, Brian and Kevin Hrpcek of Burlington, Austin and Adam Graf of Union Grove; stepchildren, Bruce (Jessica) Kaskubar of Rochester, MN, Terese (David) Block of Waukesha, Cathy Lynn Coonan of Green Bay, and Diane (Coy) Peterson of Racine; 7 step-grandchildren; sister, Anne Bulik of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Joyce (Ken Hawes) Mielke of Racine; brother-in-law, Robert Backlin of Astoria, OR.; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Lois, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Backlin and Mary Giese-Kopecky, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marlene and Frank Bednar, Rudolph Bulik, Eugene Giese, Joe Kopecky, and Richard Downie; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Amelia “Mollie” Isferding.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass. Entombment, with full military honors, will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. The family has suggested memorials to Brookside Care Center Activity Fund.
