Dianne L. Sheeder

Dianne L. (nee, Dow) Sheeder, 60, passed away at Harmony Commons on Tuesday, March 31, 2009.

Dianne was born in Oconomowoc, WI, on April 16, 1948, to Harold and Juanita (nee, Adams) Dow. She has lived in the Phoenix area for the past 17 years where she worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Dianne loved to work with ceramics and crafting. She was a strong person who fought very hard with her illnesses.

Survivors include her sons, Eric (Rosemary) Sheeder and Jason (Fiancé, Jenny Dyess) Sheeder; grandchildren, Matt Sheeder and Dalilla Weidman; brothers, Terry (Betty) Dow, David (Diana) Dow and Brian Dow; and her sister, Sharon (Robert) Peterson. Dianne is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Dianne will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 4 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 2 p.m. until the time of services.

Domingo Bernal Sr.

Domingo Bernal Sr., 75, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital Milwaukee on Tuesday March 31, 2009. He was born the son of Juan and Ricarda (nee: Perez) Bernal on May 14, 1933, in Pearsall, Texas.

Domingo was united in marriage to Juanita DeLaRosa in Racine on September 15, 1956. He was employed at Chrysler Motors, retiring in 1984 after 35 years of service. Domingo was a proud member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and Local #72.

He was an avid Packers Fan, and found great enjoyment in tending to his yard along with watching his grandson, Domingo III, participate in football and tae-kwon-do. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his extended family, including his great-granddaughter, Savannah Rose Bernal.

Domingo is survived by his wife of 52 years, Juanita; children, Domingo (Gloria) Bernal Jr., Chris Bernal, Guadalupe Bernal; grandson, Domingo (fiancée, Devon) Bernal III; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Rose Bernal. Domingo is further survived by one brother, Candelario (Beatrice) Bernal, and brother-in-law, Sylvester (Mary) DeLaRosa, all of Racine. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Domingo was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Juan; one daughter, Guadalupe; four brothers, Ramon, Robert, Jose and Santiago Bernal; six sisters, Aurora Bueno, Minga Molina, Elvina Garcia, Elvira Ortiz, Ramona Martinez and Juanita Pavia.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Domingo’s life will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 1425 Grove Ave., Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating, assisted by Deacon Russ Missureli. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the Sturino Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until mass at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family or Racine Fire Bells Inc., P.O. Stanley J. Carriveau

Phoenix, AZ – Stanley J. Carriveau, 64, passed away in Phoenix, AZ on March 31, 2009, following a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Stanley was born in Red Lake, MN, on March 19, 1945. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of AMVETS and American Legion Post #27. Stanley was also very active with Salmon-a-rama and was a member of the South Milwaukee Tavern League during the '80s.

Stanley is survived by his sons, Troy (Julie) Carriveau and John (Debbie) Carriveau; stepsons, Bill (Patti) Anderson and Todd (Jean) Anderson; nine grandchildren; brother, Gary (Ellen) Carriveau; sisters, Shirley (Bud) Mikolajczak, Janice Sanders and Sharon (Don Eaton) English; sister-in-law, Patricia Carriveau; and brother-in-law, Dean Hince. Stanley is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Duane Carriveau and Steve Carriveau; sister, Marion Hince; and her significant other, Daisy Rivest.

Matthias Karl Georg Meise

Matthias Karl Georg Meise, 37, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Matthias was born in Bonn, Germany, on June 2, 1971, to Gerhard and Margaret (nee: Gerlach) Meise. He was united in marriage to Robin Raether, on December 27, 2000, in Bonn, Germany. Robin and Matthias returned to Wisconsin in the summer of 2001.

Matthias attended Beethoven Gymnasium High School in Bonn, Germany, graduating in 1990. His post-graduate studies were Uni Bonn, class of 1995, and Uni Koeln, class of 1999, attaining a Master’s Degree in Arts and Classics. Matthias received his teaching certification at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He served in the German Army for one year, specializing in driving tanks.

Matthias was employed with the Racine Unified Schools since 2001 at Park High School and McKinley Middle School where he taught German and history. Matthias loved classical music, world history, movies, traveling, operas, theatre, telling jokes, teaching German and visiting the Racine beach. He was a loving husband, father, son, son-in-law and friend.

Matthias is survived by his wife, Robin Meise; two sons, Philip, age 3, and Theodor, age 1, all of Racine; parents, Gerhard and Margaret Meise, brother, Michael Meise, and sister, Maria Meise, all of Bonn, Germany. Matthias is further survived by his step-grandmother, Caesilia Hampe-Meise of Ochtrup, Germany; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends and colleagues throughout the United States and Germany. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Sturino Funeral Home, with Rev. Henry Maibush officiating. Irene Ruk

Irene (nee: Janiak) Ruk, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 29, 2009, at Becker-Shoop Center.

A lifetime resident, Irene was born on August 30, 1925, to the late Joseph and Constance Janiak. On August 3, 1945, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Henry W. Ruk, who preceded her in death on November 29, 1997.

With profound faith in her God, she was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Prior, she had been a member of St. Edward Church for 30 years.

Irene fulfilled her lifelong passion of being a tireless homemaker who cared for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a fantastic cook and phenomenal baker. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family.

Surviving are her children, Gerald Ruk of Racine, Joan (Lawrence) Brown of Yorkville, Adele (Barry) Brunow of Union Grove, and Diane (Michael) Hofmann of Oak Creek; grandchildren, Joshua and Sam Ruk, Steven and Kevin Brown, and Sara, Carolyn and Marie Hofmann; great-grandson, Aiden; sisters, Eva Garbarek, Emily Arndt and Adele Spieker; brothers, Leo and Lawrence Janiak; sister-in-law, Betty Janiak; former daughter-in-law, Evelyn Milich-Ruk; many dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Robert Bergman

Robert Bergman, 84, passed away on Sunday morning, March 29, 2009, at Ridgewood Care Center.

A lifetime resident, Bob was born in Racine on March 22, 1925, to the late James and Gladys (nee: Benson) Bergman. A 1942 graduate of Washington Park High School, he was employed for over 40 years by Western Publishing, retiring in 1990.

On August 20, 1949, in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Bob was united in marriage with the love of his life, Florence Gurski. He was a member of the Western 20-Year Club. Among his interests, Bob enjoyed bowling, especially with his league at Castle Lanes, and playing church league dart-ball.

Bob was a true gentleman who had a great appreciation for the simple things that life offered. Above all, he was happiest when in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Florence Bergman; their children, Mary (Clifton) Titcomb of Ft. Wayne, IN; Steven (Diane) Bergman, James (Evelyn) Bergman, both of Racine; and Peter Bergman of Fox Point, WI; grandchildren, Emily and Robert Titcomb; Michael and Sarah Bergman; Chris (Amy), Scott (Ariel) and Paul Bergman; Shayla Noltee; and Theresa Bergman; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Bergman; and many other special relatives and family friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Howard Bergman.

Thomas G. Johnson

Naples Florida- Thomas G. Johnson 79, formerly of Racine, passed away at Barrington Terrace in Naples Florida, on Sunday March 29, 2009. He was born in Racine on September 21, 1929, the son of Albin and Amelia (nee: Voss) Johnson.

Tom was united in marriage to Janice M. Chvilicek in Holy Communion Lutheran Church on November 25, 1950. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard, Battery ‘B’ 132nd A.A.A. for six years. Tom was employed with Ameritech, retiring on February 28, 1991, after 43 years of service. He was member of the Telephone Pioneers, Y.M.C.A., Seniors Men’s Golf League at Johnson Park, and Library of the Blind “Talking Book Repair Racine.”

Tom is survived by two sons, Mark T. (Catherine) Johnson and Scott C. Johnson; two grandchildren, Kelli and David Johnson all of Racine; and nephews, Daniel and David Johnson of Austin, Texas. He is further survived by numerous cousins, other relatives and dear friends in Racine and Florida.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Janice on March 22, 1995; son, Gary M. Johnson; parents; brother, Robert Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Vallberg Chvilicek; brother-in law, Paul Chvilicek; and special friends, Joanne Moran and Margaret Luke.

Victoria R. Wellens

Victoria Wellens, of Franksville, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2009. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim; stepchildren, Aaron and Elizabeth; and grandchildren, Morgan, Mia and Mya; and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Wellens and Emma Martin; and brother, Harold.

Victoria was the executive director of the Wisconsin Humane Society in Milwaukee. She came to the shelter in 1994 from the YWCA in Waukesha. In just five years, thanks to her brilliant efforts, Milwaukee boasted one of the best shelters in the country, a place where animals receive excellent care in a nurturing and loving environment.

She was an amazing human being and her commitment and dedication to the Wisconsin Humane Society was unparalleled. For 15 years, her outstanding leadership transformed the humane society into a beacon of hope for not only homeless animals, but for people who strive to make the world a kinder place for animals. She set the highest standards for animal care and was nationally recognized for her valiant efforts and remarkable leadership. Victoria also served on a myriad of national organizations to help shape the future for humane animal care throughout the country. Victoria’s leadership, vision and friendship will be missed by the staff, volunteers and many friends of the Wisconsin Humane Society.

John N. Becker

John N. Becker, age 78, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. John was born in Racine on January 19, 1931, son of the late Bernard T. and Margaret (Nee: Haas) Becker.

On June 18, 1966, at St. Patrick Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Mary Jo DeMatthew (Nee: Beetcher). A graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1949,” John served in the United States Army in Panama. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a longtime employee of Schultz Savo Food Stores. What John enjoyed most in life was watching and encouraging his daughter Patti as she trained and competed in equestrian events. John also enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends.

John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Becker; his children, Patricia Becker, Jeffery (Leneya) De Matthew, Carol (Steve) Rawlinko, Daniel (Amy) DeMatthew, Barbara DeMatthew (Tim Pawzun), James (Kathy) DeMatthew; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Kathryn, Jamie, Eleanor, Nicholas, Rebecca and Dana DeMatthew; sister and brothers, Helen (Richard) Malzahn, Robert (Patricia) Becker, Jerome (Gail) Becker; sisters-in-law, Nancy Becker and Carol Samsa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Genevieve 'Gene' Mary Hansen

Genevieve “Gene” Hansen, 90, passed away in Wheaton Franciscan Hospital-All Saints on Friday, March 27, 2009.

She was born in Colfax, ND, on May 4, 1918, the daughter of the late Joseph and Delia (nee: Jackley) Dederich. She came to Racine as a young girl and was a lifetime resident. She graduated from Holy Name School and the Class of ’36 from Park High School. On May 16, 1953, in Holy Name Church, she was united in marriage to Gilbert W. Hansen, who preceded her in death on June 4, 1982. Genevieve was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.

Genevieve was a devout Catholic who did not merely practice her religion, she lived it. Her life was dedicated to helping others. With her parents both passing when she was just 18, she turned down a nursing scholarship to focus on supporting and raising her five younger siblings. Her kindness and loving care extended past her family to all those in need. Gene leaves with us many great memories and a vision of putting others before self. Mom, if there is an oven in heaven, we know you are baking chocolate chip cookies right now.

Surviving are her three sons and five grandsons, Steven (Caroline) Hansen of Wilmington, DE, their sons Erik and Matthew; Donald (Julie) Hansen of Racine, their son Jacob; and Larry (Mary) Hansen of San Diego, CA, and their sons Michael and Gregory; brother, Jim (Beverly) Dederich; sister, Mildred Brauderick; sisters-in-law, Mildred Nelson and Marie Dederich, and Toni Cantwell; brother-in-law Richard Luedtke. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive her. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, her brothers, Frank and Robert Dederich, and sister, Mary Luedtke, preceded her in death.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. John Nepomuk Church, 1903 Green St., on Wednesday, April 1. Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Eugene William Hommerding, 89, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol J. Conte.

Ivora 'Skin Goody' Turner

Ivora “Skin Goody” Turner, 77, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. He was born in Myrtle, Mississippi, on September 19, 1931, son of the late Leroy and Hattie (nee: Harris) Turner. He moved to Racine as a young man, and on November 23, 1959, was married to Mary L. Johnson. Mr. Turner enjoyed a 42-year career at JI Case where he was a fork truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and their children, Alice Turner of Chatsworth, CA, Derek Turner of Englewood, CA, Kevin Turner, Vicki (Courtney) Turner-Barlow, and Bradly Turner all of Racine; six grandchildren, Taeli Shea Turner, Chelsea, Christian, and Camille Barlow, Bradley and Bryson Turner; four brothers, Henry, Othella, and William Turner, and Joseph (Jennifer) Ticer, all of Racine; his aunt, Ann Canady of Peoria, IL; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lura Kirk; and brothers, Vivian, George, and Terrell Turner.

Arthur J. Dupuis

Arthur Jerome Dupuis, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, following a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

A lifetime resident, Art was born in Racine on October 14, 1930, to the late William and Marie (nee: Raschke) Dupuis. A 1948 graduate of William Horlick High School, he proudly went on to earn his Business degree from University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1957.

On February 27, 1960, in Zion Lutheran Church, Art was united in marriage with the love of his life, Beverly Jane Jenkins, just recently celebrating their 49th Anniversary. He was employed for over 40 years by Western Publishing – Golden Books, retiring as a customer service account manager. In retirement, Art enjoyed working part time as a courier for M & I Bank and as a courtesy driver for Gentile Automotive Group.

Blessed with an incredible voice, Art shared his God-given talent by singing as a cantor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where he has been a longtime member. Among his interests, Art enjoyed running (he ran the 10-mile Lighthouse Run at age 50), working on projects around his beautiful home, golfing and was a Wisconsin Badger fanatic. Art was a passionate family man who loved and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family. Above all, his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Bev; their children, Jeffrey (Robin) Monson-Dupuis of Greenfield; Kevin (Tonya) Dupuis of Racine and Christopher (Veronica) Dupuis of Caledonia; grandchildren, Deva and Ethan Monson-Dupuis; Brittany, Tyler and Cody Dupuis; and Aliah and Terra Papara; sisters-in-law, Anna, Florence and Arlene Dupuis; and JoAnn Brinkman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilfred “Bill,” Richard and Gilbert Dupuis; sister, Helen (Ken) Thatcher; and brother-in-law, Fred “Fritz” Brinkman.

In accordance with Art’s wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 725 High Street, with Rev. James F. Peters officiating. Ellis M. Storey

Ellis M. Storey, 66, passed away at Vitas Innovative Hospice in Wauwatosa on Tuesday, March 23, 2009. He was born in Ripley, Mississippi, on August 9, 1942, son of the late Cleave and Jennie Mae (nee: Simelton) Story.

He was a Racine resident for most of life. Ellis served in the U.S. Army from 1968-70. Following, he began a longtime career with JI Case Co. After retiring from Case, Ellis worked for the City of Racine as a Crossing Guard at Jerstad-Agerholm Elementary, and Mitchell Middle School. He was a member of Holy Disciple Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his children, Denise Washington of Hinesville, GA, Ellis Storey, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, Eddie Miller of Anoka, MN, and Tawanna Storey of Racine; five grandchildren; three sisters and three brothers, Mary (Elder Walter) Hughlett of Milwaukee, Evone Story, Linda (Richard Wade) Story, Oliver (Orine) Story all of Racine, Lawyer (Mary) Story of Milwaukee, and Freddie Story of Columbus, MS; sister-in-law , Lorene Story of Racine; and a host of dear relatives and friends. He was also preceded by his sister, Joanne; and brothers, John, William, Troy, and Charles Story.

Homegoing services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009, at New Omega Baptist Church, 5731 Northwestern Ave., with Pastor A.W. Scaife officiating. Gerald J. Scholzen

Gerald J. Scholzen, age 82, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Jerry was born in Racine, July 13, 1926, son of the late Frank A. and Johanna (Nee: Holler) Scholzen.

Jerry graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1945.” He was proud to serve his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps and during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force. On June 26, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Marguerite E. Durben. Jerry was employed by the City of Racine as a firefighter for over 20 years, retiring in 1984. He was one of the first EMTs to serve on the Fire Department. He was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodcarving, gardening, and traveling but most of all spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marguerite; five children, Linda (Ron) Solberg, Jerry (Sandy) Scholzen, Betty (Tom) Klamm, Craig (Kerri) Scholzen, Dianne (Ron) Chase; eight grandchildren, Jason (Christine) Beyer, Andrew and Kristin Chase, Steven and Samantha Scholzen, Jennifer Klamm, Zachary Scholzen, Mike Solberg; three great-grandchildren, Austin Beyer, Summer and Carter Gray; a brother, Francis “Smokey” (Helen) Scholzen; sister, Marilyn Meister; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Dorothea) Durben, Alice Durben, George (Vicki) Durben, Lucille Scholzen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Rose Marie (Fiorita) Sollazo

Rose Marie Sollazo, age 89, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. She was born in Racine on December 11, 1919, daughter of the late Guy and Divina (Nee: Russo) Fiorita.

On February 2, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church she was married to Leo Sollazo who preceded her in death March 7, 1996. Rose was employed as a stitcher at Rainfair Inc, as a drapery seamstress for Porter’s Furniture and was employed at Willy’s Sentry Store on Douglas Ave. Rose was an excellent seamstress and knitter. She took great pride in her grandchildren, her home, gardening with her husband , canning tomatoes, baking bread, Italian cooking and having a full cookie jar for her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Gary) Stowers and Donna Nielsen; her brother, Joseph “Buff” Fiorita all of Racine; grandchildren, Amy Beth (Michael) Garbo, Marco L. (Jessica Davis) Andersen, Andrew J. Nielsen all of Racine, Emily Rose Nielsen (Brett Kammerer) of Madison, WI; step-grandson, Eric (Tracy) Stowers of Franklin, WI; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Alexander Garbo of Racine; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan and Sydney Stowers of Franklin, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lorraine 'Lori' Schoeffer

Lorraine Ann “Lori” (nee: Glodowski) Schoeffer, 81, passed away at Home Harbor on Sunday, March 22, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer.

A lifetime resident, Lorraine was born in Racine on May 4, 1927, to the late Louis and Stella (nee: Wolgot) Glodowski. She was a graduate of Washington Park High School.

On March 15, 1952, Lorraine was united in marriage with the love of her life, Bernard A. “Bernie” Schoeffer, who preceded her in death on April 1, 2002.

Lorraine was employed by Twin Disc for over 22 years, retiring in 1989. A faithful member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, she enjoyed being involved with the Knights of Columbus-Council 697 Ladies Auxiliary. Lorraine was a member of the Twin Disc 20 Year Club. She had a great appreciation for Lighthouses and had acquired an extensive collection over the years. Among her interests, Lorraine loved travelling with Bernie to Arizona for annual Brewer and Cub spring training camps; trying their luck in Las Vegas; and to beautiful Eagle River twice a year with their family. Above all, Lorraine’s priorities in life were her faith in God and her treasured family.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen (Todd) Anderson; son, Randall Schoeffer; grandson, Cory Seymour; sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Glodowski and Anne Bergo; brother-in-law, Philip Schoeffer; special friend, Flo Jordan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Timothy and James Schoeffer; brother, Edwin Glodowski; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Mary (nee: Gilitzer) Schoeffer; sister-in-law, Margaret (John) Lamont; and brother-in-law, Francis Schoeffer.

Norman R. Andersen

Norman R. Andersen, 75, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Sunday, March 22, 2009.

Norman was born in Racine on December 13, 1933, to Christian and Martha (nee, Koeller) Andersen. He married the former Marilyn Neuman at Trinity Lutheran Church on May 7, 1955.

Norman and Marilyn met when employed together at AllOver Clipper Company. Norman then worked for Don Hutson Chevrolet for over 30 years, before moving to Palmen Motors in Kenosha where he worked for 11 years until his retirement in 1996. Norman was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a volunteer with the Racine Lutheran High School Thrift Store. He was an avid fisherman and loved to spend time at Found Lake near St. Germain, WI, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Norman is survived by his wife, Marilyn Andersen; sons, Richard (Tammy) Andersen and Mark (Jeannie) Andersen; grandchildren, Karrica Andersen, Mark Andersen, Ryan Andersen and Olivia Andersen; his sister, Betty Krewal; and brother-in-law, Richard Neuman. Norman is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Norman will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2065 Geneva St., on Friday, March 27, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Jennings and Rev. David Gehne officiating. Dorothy J. Anderson

Mrs. Dorothy J. Anderson, 85, passed away on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2009, at Ridgewood Healthcare Center, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Racine on Oct. 27, 1923, the daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret Anderson. Together Margaret and Andrew had three children, Bernadine, Dorothy and Donald. She was united in marriage to William Anderson on July 15, 1960, he preceded her in death on June 19, 1992.

She worked for the cheese plant in Mayville, WI, was an assistant to Dr. Jameson and a homemaker. She enjoyed baking, traveling, crossword puzzles and crocheting. Above all, she loved having a home filled with family and friends,

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Emil) Panyk of Racine; grandchildren, Scott Nelson of Canada, Kristin Nelson and her husband, Jimmy Rogers of Canada, Betty (Rob) Wanless, Steven (Wendy) Panyk, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Nelson, a sister and a brother.

Dolores A. Barnett

KENOSHA – Dolores A. (nee: McGrath) Barnett, 64, passed away from complications from heart surgery on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Memorial Hospital of Burlington. She was born in Kenosha on April 20, 1944, the daughter of Joseph and Verna (nee: Andersen) McGrath.

Dolores was educated at St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s Schools. She was employed with AT&T and Ameritech as an operator and later as a central office technician. Dolores was able to retire at the age of 50 and spent those retirement years volunteering at Horizons Women’s Shelter and other Telephone Pioneer sponsored projects. She found great enjoyment in shopping resale stores for bargains for herself and many others. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Dolores is survived by her children, Todd Barnett, Debra (Jeff) Wamboldt, and Troy (Heidi) Barnett, all of Kenosha; her grandchildren, Kelsey and Kalee Barnett, and Michael and Rachel Wamboldt; also by sisters, Patricia (Don) McCann of Showlow, AZ, Kathleen (Peter) Clouthier of Racine; and brother, William (Anne) McGrath of Winchester, MA. Dolores is further survivived by nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and many dear friends, especially her best friend Darlene (Bart) Keeling.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents.

Nancy C. Heinen

BURLINGTON – Nancy C. Heinen (nee: Woodward), 67, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington. She was surrounded by her loving family as she lost her courageous battle with cancer.

Nancy was born in Racine on May 28, 1941, to Richard and Mathilda (nee: Johnson) Woodward. She was a homemaker until entering the medical profession as a medical assistant and pharmacy technician. Nancy lived in Racine and Kenosha prior to moving to Phoenix, AZ, in 1986. She retired in 2005 and returned to Wisconsin to be near her children and grandchildren. Nancy enjoyed camping, bowling, traveling, gambling, her family, and especially helping others.

Surviving are her four children, Kimberly Bitto of Genoa City, Barbara Robers of Burlington, Marianne DeBolt of Salem and Jeffrey (Kris) Heinen of Union Grove; seven grandchildren, Jessica Barrette, Samantha and Alex Robers, Emily and Cassie DeBolt and Ryan and Sarah Heinen; three brothers, Howard Woodward of Black River Falls, Vernon (Irene) Woodward of Racine, Wayne (Marvel) Woodward of Marshfield; as well as many nieces, nephews; and special friend, Andy Gianturco of Phoenix.

Nancy was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd, Bill, and David Woodward; sister, Joyce Woodward; half brothers, George and Glenn Woodward; and half sisters, Helen Ludvigsen and Margaret Rasmussen.

Stephanie Ann Luten

Ms. Stephanie Ann Luten (nee: Morgan), 47, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 20, 2009. Stephanie was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 4, 1961, the daughter of James and Pinkie (nee: Russell) Morgan. She was a 1979 graduate of Washington Park High School. After graduation she attended the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, and the University of Wisconsin – Parkside.

Stephanie worked many years as a bus driver. Her first position was with the Unified School District, and then with the Belle Urban System. She also worked as a support coordinator at the Dr. John Bryant Community Center.

Stephanie accepted Christ at an early age, and loved to talk about her Lord. Stephanie loved life; to smile, dance, and tell jokes. Her laughter was contagious! She could break out in a roaring laugh and get everyone to join in. She was completely dedicated to her family and friends, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. All she asked in return was respect and kindness. She was an excellent homemaker and loved to cook. Her parents were her joy, and she spent many hours helping them with their business at the 7 Mile Fair.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Sheteaka Morgan, Ronald Luten, Jr., and Raven Luten; and her parents, James and Pinkie Morgan all of Racine; five sisters, Portia (Nadah) Bailey of Walden, New York, Lydia (Gregory) Nelson of Milwaukee, Briannie Morgan, Ciara Morgan, and Kiara Morgan all of Racine; her grandparents, Flaura Russell, Luke (Dee) Morgan, and Annie B. Yvonne G. Ziegenhagen

Yvonne G. (nee: Meister) Ziegenhagen, 82, passed on Thursday March 19, 2009, at Kenosha Memorial Hospital. She was born in Oshkosh, on December 5, 1926, the daughter of Armin and Gertrude (nee: Schaufelberger) Meister. Yvonne was united in marriage to Edward R. Ziegenhagen in Racine on May 20, 1948. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and St. John’s Mission Guild.

Yvonne is survived by her children, Armin Ziegenhagen, Bruce (Barb) Ziegenhagen, Gerry (John) Alvarez, Murlyn (Jon) Rutkowski, and Robert Ziegenhagen. She is further survived by eleven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1979, two sons, Edward in 2000 and Jessie in 1986; two grandchildren, Samantha and Jason; and one brother, Armin.

Steve O. 'Butch' Szuhai III

Steve O. ‘Butch’ Szuhai III, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on May 27, 1940, the son of Steve and Romayne (nee: Hegeman) Szuhai Jr.

On October 6, 1973, Butch was united in marriage to Deborah J. Larson at the Zion Lutheran Church in Racine. He was a Washington Park High School graduate "Class of 1958." Butch retired from the military as a Tech Sgt., having served 33 years with the 440th United States Air Force Reserves. Most recently he had been employed with Limtech for the last 11 years. Butch was a member of the Wood Carving Club and enjoyed motorcycles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, family and friends, including his retired friends from the 440th .

Surviving are his wife, Deb; daughters; Jenni (Steve) Mai and Keri “Cookie” Haney; mother-in-law, Elaine Larson; grandsons, Jon, Nate and Dylan; sisters, Kathleen Ross, Elizabeth Goll and Jackai Szuhai, all of Racine, and Alice Szuhai of Michigan; best friends Bob and Anita Atkinson of Racine. He is further survived by numerous relatives and many dear friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, George Larson; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jack Garbo, and brother-in-law, Ken Ross.

Margaret Caroline Thompson

Margaret Caroline Thompson, 88, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center on her beloved husband’s birthday, Thursday, March 19, 2009.

Margaret was born in Genesee, WI, on October 9, 1920, to the late Theodore and Valeska (nee: Freudenstein) Becher. She lived in Racine for most of her life.

On November 26, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Carl Albert Thompson, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1993.

With a profound Christian faith, she was a member of the United Pentecostal Church. Margaret fulfilled her lifelong passion of being a proud and tireless homemaker, a vocation she completely excelled at. She enjoyed cooking, canning and tending to her treasured family. Margaret loved nothing more than being in the surroundings of her entire family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Alvin (Helen) Thompson, Darlene Thompson and Gene (Sandy) Thompson; grandchildren, Patricia (Paul) Gordon, Bonnie (Bill) Stangohr, Jeanie (Ted) Weber and Brian Thompson; great-grandchildren, Bethany and Aubriana Gordon; Katelin, Emmalee and Jared Stangohr; Tate and Spencer Weber; brother, Leslie (Ruby) Becher; brother-in-law, Ralph McGuire; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Wiladean 'Gerry' Carney

FRANKSVILLE – Wiladean ‘Gerry’ (nee: Peterson) Carney, 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Ridgewood Care Center. She was born in Leopolis, WI on October 14, 1927, the daughter of Everett and Leathy (nee: Gregory) Peterson.

Gerry was a graduate of Tigerton High School in Tigerton. She was united in marriage to Harvey Carney. Gerry had been employed at Farm & Fleet in Sturtevant, retiring in 1992. She was a sports fan, loved the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Gerry also loved to cook and made cotton candy for the local school carnivals for many years. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children; James Carney, Jaclyn (Rick) Behnke and Jeanne (Warren) Aiona; ten grandchildren, Rochelle, Joshua, Beth, Jennifer, Nathan, Samantha, Zachary, Jacob, Danielle and Justice; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sally Peterson. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, on June 23, 1979, son, John on November 15, 2006, three sisters and three brothers.

Joseph 'Joe' L. Scott

Joseph L. Scott, age 38, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. Joseph was born in Racine, son of Steven W. Scott and Kathryn R. (Nee: Cain) Aretz.

Joe was a graduate of William Horlick High School. He continued his education at MATC and received a technical degree in carpentry. He worked for many contractors in the city and eventually opened his own business. His love for the outdoors included playing tennis, snowboarding and riding bikes. Joe was also a very knowledgeable movie buff and reader. Joe’s many other talents included painting, drawing, and designing decks and porches.

Before receiving his degree from MATC, Joe drove across country in an 18-wheeler with his aunt, B.J. Joe was adventurous and enjoyed trying new things. But more than anything else, his life centered around his daughter, Nina, who was his greatest source of pride and happiness. He was taken from us too soon and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his daughter, Nina, and her mother, Michelle Parkhill; his mother, Kathryn (Doug) Aretz; sister, Lisa (Joseph) Glover; two nieces, Mikayla and Riley; stepbrother, Steve (Betsy) Aretz of Berkely, MI; aunts, Cindy (John) Ryder of Racine, B.J. O’Donnell of Valrico, FL; cousins, Dr. Steven Ryder (Michelle), Melissa Damaschke (Don), Katherine Ryder-Pettersen (Ryan); and lifelong friend, Benito (Dawn) Kelly and their sons, Tim and Jesse; along with other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Scott, in March of 2008; his grandmother, Margaret Cain; and grandfather, Don Grant.

A Memorial Service will be held at Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church, 625 College Ave., on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 5 p.m. until time of service. Memorials to the family for an education fund to be established for Nina have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Michael Mullane, Oncology Alliance and staff, the staff from the Oncology wing of Wheaton Franciscan Hospital and the Cancer Center, Wheaton Franciscan Hospice, and especially the nurses and aides at Ridgewood Care Center for their loving and compassionate care.

George A. Musack 'George the Tailor'

George A. Musack, 78, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in North Carolina.
He was born in Racine on May 17, 1930, the son of the late Anthony and Rose (nee: Patriarca) Musack. On November 24, 1949, in Emmaus Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Ruth Andersen. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1999 and Ruth preceded him in death in 2000.

George worked as a salesman and tailor for George & Lester’s for 18 years. In 1967 he opened “George’s Custom Tailors” in Racine. His skillful needlework, careful fitting and meticulous attention to detail established an enviable reputation in tailoring of men’s suits and women’s apparel. After closing his tailor shop, George work for Gingess Formal Wear and Jorgenson’s Men’s Wear. George was a talented craftsman and counted all of his customers as friends. He was known and well-liked by everyone - he never knew a stranger. He was known as a gentlemen’s gentleman.

His most cherished memories were the times spent with his family. George enjoyed time fishing, golfing and was the “shuffle king” in Leesburg, Florida. Surviving are his children, Debbie Benicek of Cary, NC, Cathy (Jim) Campbell, Julie Marks, Greg Musack (Cindy), and Jodi Runkel, all of Racine; his grandchildren, Joe Jurkiewicz, Heather Benicek, Nicole Ashley (Curt), Jennifer Jurkiewicz (Mark Hammes) , David Marks, Jeremy Marks, Erica Marks, Jason Runkel, Megan Runkel, Heather Kammien (Jack), Chad Campbell; great-grandchildren, Jack Kammien III, Eliza Kammien and Aubrey Ashley, and Jenny and Mark’s baby to arrive this fall; his sister Norma Jensen of Middleton; and special friend Alma Fenstemacher of Leesburg, FL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Holly Anderle of First Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the services. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, all are welcomed. The family has suggested memorials to either Special Olympics, or your favorite charity.

Special thanks to Debbie, Heather, and Alma for their loving care of Dad over the last few years and to “Grandpa’s” many caring friends in North Carolina.

Ann (Marino) Guendel

Ann Guendel, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Ruth Hospice Home, West Allis, WI. Born in New York City, Ann spent a large part of her life in the Midwest, having lived in Peoria, Racine and from 1981-2006 in Oak Brook, Illinois. In 2006, after the passing of her husband Tom, she relocated to Greendale to be closer to family.

Ann was a great mom, who along with her husband Tom raised three sons. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle and loving woman who always put her family first. Ann enjoyed reading, travel and her friends. Most of all, she enjoyed the times spent with her family, including her nine grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Doug (Cathy), Rich, Steve (Joanne); a sister, Rita. In addition she has nine grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Brett, Madeline, Ben, Brandon, Daniel, Katelyn and Bradley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, and parents, Michael and Julia Marino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., on Monday March 23, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Raymond Elam officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
