Dorothy M. (Herink) Kwallek

Dorothy M. Kwallek, age 81, passed away at her home on Friday, March 13, 2009, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was born in Council Grove, Kansas, on June 19, 1927, to the late Louis and Frances (Nee: Kusy) Herink.

Dorothy graduated from Brown-Mackie, School of Business, Salina, Kansas, in 1946. In 1959 she moved to Racine where she worked at Twin Disc, Inc. for 36 years until her retirement in March 1995. She enjoyed working and the friends she met along the way, doing counted cross stitch and spending summers at her trailer in Adams Friendship. She was a deacon and member of the Second Presbyterian Church, a member of Twin Disc “20 Year Club,” and a member of National Wildlife Federation.

Dorothy is survived by a brother, Lee (Ella Mae) Herink; nephew, David Herink all of San Marcos, CA; her church family at Second Presbyterian Church; friends, Gloria Ezerins, Bernice Savard, Theresa Kawa, and Judy Born and many , many friends too numerous to mention. Dorothy was a kind, loving person always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed one. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Arleigh Herink; sister-in-law, Velma Herink; a baby brother; nephew, Patrick Herink; church buddy Betty Halberstadt; and her partner and best friend, Richard R. Nazer.

Funeral services will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 1400 Kingston Ave., on Tuesday March 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. There will be a visitation at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be held in Brooklawn Cemetery, Cadott, WI. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the American Lung Assn, Countryside Humane Society, the Northside Food Pantry of the charity of your choice in Dorothy’s honor are suggested.
