Rose Marie (Fiorita) Sollazo

Rose Marie Sollazo, age 89, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital. She was born in Racine on December 11, 1919, daughter of the late Guy and Divina (Nee: Russo) Fiorita.

On February 2, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church she was married to Leo Sollazo who preceded her in death March 7, 1996. Rose was employed as a stitcher at Rainfair Inc, as a drapery seamstress for Porter’s Furniture and was employed at Willy’s Sentry Store on Douglas Ave. Rose was an excellent seamstress and knitter. She took great pride in her grandchildren, her home, gardening with her husband , canning tomatoes, baking bread, Italian cooking and having a full cookie jar for her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Gary) Stowers and Donna Nielsen; her brother, Joseph “Buff” Fiorita all of Racine; grandchildren, Amy Beth (Michael) Garbo, Marco L. (Jessica Davis) Andersen, Andrew J. Nielsen all of Racine, Emily Rose Nielsen (Brett Kammerer) of Madison, WI; step-grandson, Eric (Tracy) Stowers of Franklin, WI; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Alexander Garbo of Racine; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan and Sydney Stowers of Franklin, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Metzger and Adeline Falaschi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 27, 2009, at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Reverend John D. Aiello officiating. Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 4 p.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Assn have been suggested by the family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Becker-Shoop Center for the kind and compassionate care Rose received while there.
