Steve O. 'Butch' Szuhai III

Steve O. ‘Butch’ Szuhai III, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on May 27, 1940, the son of Steve and Romayne (nee: Hegeman) Szuhai Jr.

On October 6, 1973, Butch was united in marriage to Deborah J. Larson at the Zion Lutheran Church in Racine. He was a Washington Park High School graduate "Class of 1958." Butch retired from the military as a Tech Sgt., having served 33 years with the 440th United States Air Force Reserves. Most recently he had been employed with Limtech for the last 11 years. Butch was a member of the Wood Carving Club and enjoyed motorcycles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, family and friends, including his retired friends from the 440th .

Surviving are his wife, Deb; daughters; Jenni (Steve) Mai and Keri “Cookie” Haney; mother-in-law, Elaine Larson; grandsons, Jon, Nate and Dylan; sisters, Kathleen Ross, Elizabeth Goll and Jackai Szuhai, all of Racine, and Alice Szuhai of Michigan; best friends Bob and Anita Atkinson of Racine. He is further survived by numerous relatives and many dear friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, George Larson; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jack Garbo, and brother-in-law, Ken Ross.

There will be a visitation with the family at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, March 23, 2009, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. At 7 p.m. there will be a time for sharing and remembrances. Private burial will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Howard Short and Dr. Leonard Kleinman for the wonderful care Butch received.
