Domingo Bernal Sr., 75, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital Milwaukee on Tuesday March 31, 2009. He was born the son of Juan and Ricarda (nee: Perez) Bernal on May 14, 1933, in Pearsall, Texas.
Domingo was united in marriage to Juanita DeLaRosa in Racine on September 15, 1956. He was employed at Chrysler Motors, retiring in 1984 after 35 years of service. Domingo was a proud member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and Local #72.
He was an avid Packers Fan, and found great enjoyment in tending to his yard along with watching his grandson, Domingo III, participate in football and tae-kwon-do. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his extended family, including his great-granddaughter, Savannah Rose Bernal.
Domingo is survived by his wife of 52 years, Juanita; children, Domingo (Gloria) Bernal Jr., Chris Bernal, Guadalupe Bernal; grandson, Domingo (fiancée, Devon) Bernal III; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Rose Bernal. Domingo is further survived by one brother, Candelario (Beatrice) Bernal, and brother-in-law, Sylvester (Mary) DeLaRosa, all of Racine. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Domingo was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Juan; one daughter, Guadalupe; four brothers, Ramon, Robert, Jose and Santiago Bernal; six sisters, Aurora Bueno, Minga Molina, Elvina Garcia, Elvira Ortiz, Ramona Martinez and Juanita Pavia.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Domingo’s life will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 1425 Grove Ave., Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating, assisted by Deacon Russ Missureli. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the Sturino Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until mass at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family or Racine Fire Bells Inc., P.O. Box 081042 Racine, WI., have been suggested by the family.
The Bernal family would like to extend a very special thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital who cared for Domingo during his illness.
