Dave E. Voss

STURTEVANT – Dave E. Voss, 78, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at his residence. He was born in North Bend, Nebraska, on July 6, 1930, the son of Theodore and Thelma (nee: Tomasek) Voss.

Dave was a graduate of William Horlick High School, where he held numerous athletic records. He also played football with the Racine Raiders for a short time. He served in the United States National Guard. On January 22, 1949, Dave was united in marriage to Diane Schumacher. Dave built his home in Sturtevant and lived there for 48 years, moved to Union Grove for 17 years and most recently moved back to Sturtevant. He was a member of Grace Church and the Case Gun Club, where he enjoyed trap shooting. Dave was a member of Local 139 for 50 years, working as a heavy equipment operator, retiring from the union as a business agent on September 13, 1991.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Diane; two sons, Mark (Peggy) Voss of Burlington and Gary (Sue) Voss of Sturtevant; two daughters, Debra (Herbert) Krupp and Cheryl Voss all of Racine; 10 grandchildren, Steve, Dan, Patrick, Greg, Jeff, Narada, Jennifer, Matt, Mike and Tim; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Doris) Voss of Hillsboro, OR. He is further survived by many special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at Grace Church, 3626 Hwy 31, on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Olson officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday, before services from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials to Grace Church Building Fund or American Cancer Society have been suggested.

A special thank you to Debra Krupp, his loving daughter who selflessly cared for her dad around the clock, during the final weeks of his life, and to Dr. Mullane and his compassionate staff. A special thank you to Mary with Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.

We are so sorry to hear of Dave's passing, we are never ready for them to leave us. Don and I enjoyed our visits at the Voss Family Reunion's over the years and Dave's smile and good humor will be greatly missed. Don and Dixie Voss
