Elizabeth 'Betty' Joan (Brietzke) Fleming

Elizabeth “Betty” Joan (Nee: Brietzke) Fleming, age 87, entered Eternal Life on Monday, April 13, 2009. Elizabeth was born in Racine on May 6, 1921, to the late Rudolph and Catherine (Nee: Adam) Brietzke.

On September 8, 1942, in Racine, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Leo Ray Fleming. Elizabeth was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital as a switchboard operator. In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling and playing cards. Elizabeth was a Girl Scout leader, an avid gardener and enjoyed feeding and watching the wildlife at their home. Above all, Elizabeth was passionate about her family and very dear friends and cherished deeply the wonderful times they all spent together. Elizabeth will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Survivors include her loving children, Judith Wiechers, Michael Fleming and Diane (Ralph) Dunn; five grandchildren, Tina and Lorie Wiechers, Daniel (Heather) Fleming, Stacy Fleming and Christopher (Jennie) Dunn; six great-grandchildren, Jacob and Emma Fleming, Tommy Benish, Antonio and Javier Bernal and Aiden Dunn; sister, Rita (Arnold) Zimmer; sister-in-law, Ruth Scott; brother-in-law, Robert (Delores) Fleming; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; their two sons, Terrance and Ronald Fleming; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Scott and James Fleming.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 17, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Garden Crypts. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center Cardiac Center for their loving and compassionate care.
