John Adam Schmidt, 76, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints on Saturday April 11, 2009. He was born on December 16, 1932, in Sylvania to Christian and Marie (nee: Schaefer) Schmidt. John was united in marriage to Charlotte Blaudzuhn on August 1, 1953, in Gethsemane Lutheran Church. John was employed with Ladish as a tool and die trimmer, retiring after 38 years of service.
He loved tending to his garden, and found great enjoyment in boating and golf. For the past 50 years John was a member of the 5th Street Yacht Club, serving four terms as Commodore and 13 years as Houseman, along with being very involved in the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 51. He also was a longtime member of the Masons and Shriners.
John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Charlotte; daughters, Sharon (Ray) Walls of Milwaukee, Sandra Schmidt of Gleason, Susan (Bob Hines) DePelecyn of Racine, Joan (Jay) Salvo of Madison, and Janet (Kevin) Green of Racine; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Tracey, Kimberly, Amy, Julie, Adam, Michael, Paul and Kyle.
He is further survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Jonathan, Gregory, Megan, Gracie, Danielle, Alyssa, Andrew, David, Abigail, Annabelle, Lydia, Maddie and Hailey, one sister, Marie Chappy of So. Milwaukee; and one brother, Walter (Mary Jane) Schmidt. John is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chris Schmidt; sisters, Mollie Chappy, Sophie Joerres and Emily Hetzel; two nephews, Edward Hansen and George Joerres; and one niece, Shirley Allhands.
Funeral Services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday April 15, 2009, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
The entire Schmidt family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Odders, and the entire staff at W.F.H.-All Saints for their care and compassion given to John during his illness.
