David W. Haddow, 90, peacefully went home on November 9, 2008. David was born in Ellsworth, WI, on August 9, 1918, son of the late Winifred and Ruth (Nee: Andrus) Haddow. David served in the United States Army during WW II. He was employed for many years at Home Mutual Insurance Company.
His two sisters, Miriam and Dorothy, also preceded him in death. David was married to Lora “Jane” Hood on December 30, 1942. Jane preceded him in death on February 14, 1965. On September 9, 1978, David married Barbara P. Helland and she preceded him in death on July 28, 2003. Sadly, David’s first-born daughter, Kathleen, preceded him in death after her battle with cancer on December 17, 2004.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann, and son-in-law Jon Hammes of Mequon, WI; their children, Patrick (Marguerite) Hammes of Milwaukee, WI, Sarah (Jeremy) Naples of Pinehurst, NC, Christopher David Hammes of Milwaukee, WI, and Michael Hammes of Chicago, IL; by Kathleen’s children, Kristin (Eric) Brown of Longmont, CO, Shannon (Steve) Fausel of Silverthorne, CO, and Stephen White of New York City. Great-grandchildren, Ann Hammes (daughter of Patrick and Marguerite), Benjamin Naples (son of Sarah and Jeremy), Wolf and Saylor Fausel (son and daughter of Shannon and Steve). Three step-daughters and their husbands, Kathleen (Dennis) Dieckhoff, Elizabeth (Tom) Pero, both of Racine, WI, and Nancy Helland and (Mike Good) of Fairfax, VA. Grandchildren, Laura and Mark Dieckhoff.
All of David’s life, he cherished the relationships he shared with his family and friends. His gentle spirit and kindness to others was always evident in all of his words and actions.
Visitation will be in Mequon, WI, at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 11300 North St. James Lane (corner of Mequon Rd and Range Line Road) from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Children’s Hospital and Health System Foundation, P.O. Box 1997-MS 3050, Milwaukee, WI 53201-1997.
