STURTEVANT- Fred Roger Sorensen, 87, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare -All Saints.
He was born in Racine on Aug. 28, 1921, and lived all of his life in Racine, except for his time in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served in the Navy from November 1942 until early 1946. He served on a troop transport ship in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operations.
On July 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Norita ‘Rita’ Joan Wilson at St. John's Lutheran Church in West Allis. He was employed by Twin Disc Inc. for 41 years as a tool maker, retiring in 1983.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Norita; daughter, Anita (Don) Ford; sons, Karl (Steve Weigel), Eric (Deb); and grandchildren, Jessica (Josh Corcoran) Ford, Jordan Ford, Sara Sorensen; two great- grandchildren, Ryan and Mya; sister, Constance McGovern of Traverse City, MI; brothers, Walter (Lucille) Sorensen of Racine and Louis (Mary Lou) Sorensen of Janesville. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helmuth and Marie (nee: Kirkegaard) Sorensen; brother, Richard; sister, Gladys Rohan; brothers-in-law, Rodney Rohan and Dr. Jack McGovern; great niece, Jenna Sorensen.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, December 5, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until time of service.
