Warren O. Scheel, 84, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on December 7, 1923, the son of Oscar E. and Julitta (nee: Peterson) Scheel. On June 26, 1948, Warren was united in marriage to Doris Petersen.
He was a 1942 graduate of William Horlick High School. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, serving from July 1942 to October 1945. Warren was with the 15th Air Force, 483rd Bombardment Group, and was the recipient of the Air Medal and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Warren was a tool designer for Twin Disc, retiring after 22 years of service. He was a member of Bethania Lutheran Church, Twin Disc 20 Year Club, Racine Kiwanis and Eagles Nest. He also was a member of the Ives Grove Senior Men’s Thursday League. Warren enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, woodworking, reading and travel throughout the United States and Europe. Most of all he loved the time he spent with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Doris; and their sons, Thomas W. (Judith A.) Scheel of Sister Bay and Todd D. (Lisa L.) Scheel of Dousman; three grandchildren, Nicole (Gabriel) Ramirez, Jason Scheel and Hannah Scheel; two great-grandchildren, Kool and Daisy Ramirez; brother, Russell Scheel of Penn Yan, NY; sister, Yvonne (Donald) French of Racine and a brother-in-law, John Psiones of Racine. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Warren was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Scheel and Shirley Psiones; and by two sisters-in-law, Betty and Stella Scheel.
Funeral services will be at Bethania Lutheran Church, 4120 Wright Ave., on Friday, November 7, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Steve Wohlfeil officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bethania Lutheran Church have been suggested by the family.
Special thanks to Dr. Richard Clark of Racine, Dr. Christopher Davies, Dr. Steve Bartos and Dr. Kent Haselow all of Waukesha, Dr. Michael Mullane, Dr. John Brennan, care staff of Odyssey Hospice Care and especially to Erin, Ridgewood staff on 2 east for the fine care of Dad and continuous care of Doris. Also, John and Carol Neufeld, special neighbors and good friends, and to Warren’s many mall walking friends. We would be remiss in not recognizing our Dad’s love and devotion to our mother Doris, who he visited two times a day for the past six years, at Ridgewood.
