Jacqueline M. Phelan

Jacqueline M. Phelan, age 67, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008, at her residence. Jacqueline was born in Milwaukee, WI, on November 4, 1941, daughter of the late Sol H. and Ethel (Nee: Formann) Reif.

Jacqueline was a graduate of Whitefish Bay High School and in her younger years was an actress and director at the Jewish Community Center in Milwaukee. On September 14, 1963, she was united in marriage to John E. Phelan. Jacqueline was employed by Racine Unified School District for a number of years as a teacher’s assistant. Jacqueline was actively involved as a Pro Life Advocate and local organizer of the Life Chain. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and classical music. Above all, she devoted her life to her family and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, John; her children, Amanda (Bill) Heidenreich of Racine, Edward Phelan of Miami, FL, Vincent (Marissa) Phelan of St. Charles, IL, Rev. Matthew H. Phelan, O. de M. of Philadelphia, PA; her six grandchildren, Kristin, Erica, Allison, and Nicholas Heidenreich, Joshua and Rachel Phelan; brother, Joel (Rochelle) Reif of Canton, OH; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alice (Mike) Hickey, Mary (Gary) Rients, all of Bemidji, MN, Virginia Phelan of Sister Bay, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at 10 a.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello and Jacqueline’s son, Rev. Matthew Phelan, O. de M. and his religious confreres concelebrating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers or donations, requests for an act of kindness that is pleasing in God’s eyes for the repose of the soul of Jacqueline Phelan have been suggested.

Jacqueline’s family wishes to extend a tremendous thank you to Vitas Hospice, Dr. Antoinette Zell, and Lorraine Caspers for their loving and compassionate care.
