Eva J. Poppelman, age 90, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Woodstock Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Kenosha, WI. Eva was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands,on October 1, 1918, daughter of the late Arnold and Margaret (Nee: Letschert) Daams.
Eva was employed by the County of Racine Purchasing Department for twenty years. She was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Eva loved traveling to Hawaii, Holland and South Dakota. Above all she treasured her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rarely missed her grandchildren’s baseball, bowling, hockey or figure skating events. She will be dearly missed by all.
Survivors include her children, Roger M. Poppelman (Jean Van Swol) of Racine, Mark C. (Phyllis) Poppelman of Sturtevant, Karen L. (Ted) Janot of Racine; her honorary daughter, Charlene Abraham; seven grandchildren, Eric (Alix) Poppelman, Kyle Poppelman, Chad Poppelman, Duane (Dawn) Walley, Christopher (Theresa) Walley, Jennifer Carew, Jeff (Jill) Janot; ten great-grandchildren, Emmett, Miles and Graydon Poppelman, Jessica and Ryne Walley, Lauren, Alex, and Caitlin Carew, Zach and Ben Janot; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Catherine Poppelman; two brothers, Joseph Daams, John Daams; sister, Johanna Daams;
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., on Monday, September 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Woodstock Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, caregivers of Hospice Alliance, Dr. Pulla, Tina, and Hilda for their loving and compassionate care.
