Gladys M. Schubert

Elkhorn – Gladys M. (nee, Gericke) Schubert, 90, passed away at her home with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, September 15, 2009.

Gladdie was born in Sumatra, MT, on June 24, 1919, to Jessie and Walter Gericke. She attended school in Florence, WI, and came to Racine in 1940. Gladdie was a graduate of Wisconsin Academy of Cosmetic Art in Milwaukee. On June 14, 1943, she was married to Adolf Schubert in a candlelight ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church in Racine. He preceded her in death.

Gladdie worked as a beautician for two years prior to working as a secretary for J.I. Case Company. She also was employed as a secretary for the Racine Mental Health Association and as a receptionist in several beauty shops for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Gimper Club for 70 years, was an avid golfer at Johnson Park and Ives Grove Links, but most of all she loved being a Mom!

Survivors include her daughters, Roxanne and Joe Danek, Cindi and Joe Pappa; grandchildren, Christopher Danek, Jon (Sylvia) Danek, Carolyn (Anthony) Happel and Jill (Dallas) Hominick; and her great-grandchildren, Ashley Millar, Andy Lien, Sam Danek, Keller Hominick and Maggie Danek; and sister, Toby Watson. Gladdie is also survived by other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Walter; and two grandchildren.

A celebration of Gladdie’s life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kaye Glennon officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
