Harvey J. Olsen, age 87, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at his residence. Harvey was born in Racine, January 5, 1922, son of the late Charles and Hattie Olsen.
Harvey served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 94th Division with the 301st Infantry in Germany for which he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His four brothers also served during the war and all survived. On July 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joyce A. Boyd who preceded him in death in September 1999. Harvey was employed by We Energies for forty-one years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Bethania Lutheran Church and enjoyed the monthly men’s breakfast outings. He also enjoyed working around the house and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, David and Gwen Olsen of Racine; three grandchildren, Cara Olsen of Omaha, NE, Adam Olsen of Green Bay, WI, Joel Olsen of Platteville, WI; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bradford and Marianne Boyd of Madison, WI; niece, Michelle Guillette (Doug Edwards); other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Berthelsen; and his four brothers, Roy, Clarence “Denny,” William, and Vernon.
A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church, 4120 Wright Ave., with Reverend Steve Wohlfeil officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to Bethania Lutheran Church have been suggested.
