Michael J. 'Mike' Sturino

KENOSHA - Michael J. “Mike” Sturino, 80, passed away at his residence with his family at his side in Kenosha, on September 14, 2009.

Mike was born in Kenosha on January 13, 1929, the son of Costantino and Caroline (nee: Dattilo) Sturino. He was employed at American Motors/Chrysler, working in the Tool Crib, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service. Mike also owned Alum-A-Style Awnings and Windows, Mike’s Snow Plow, sand stone and gravel companies.

Mike was united in marriage to Catherine “Kay” Ruffolo in Kenosha on June 9, 1951, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

He found his greatest enjoyment in his family in addition to fishing and hunting. Along with his family he found peace and respite in spending time at their Lake Holcombe home, in northern Wisconsin, and wintering in Zephyrhills, Florida. Mike found great enjoyment in making Italian favorites such as Italian sausage, Capicolla, Soppressatta and many other Italian favorites. He could always be found in his garage in his beloved workshop, “his second home,” fixing and repairing anything he could find.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Kay; their children, Linda Moser, Annette (Jeff) Palmen, all of Kenosha, Karen Kirkwood of Flint, Michigan; daughter-in-law, June Sturino of Kenosha; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister, Edith (Ned) Sayles; two sisters-in-law, Gloria and Audrey Sturino, all of Kenosha; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends in Kenosha, Racine, Holcombe and Florida.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas “Tom” on July 6, 2008; two brothers, George on February 5, 1997, and Albert on May 16, 2007.

Funeral services will be at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. There will be visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family to be directed to Mike’s favorite sporting charity would be appreciated.
