Jerry E. Ferg, age 78, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Jerry was born in Racine on August 27, 1931, son of the late Harold E. and Loretta (Nee: Slafter) Ferg.
On June 9, 1979, he was united in marriage to Marlene D. Hamilton. Jerry proudly served in the United States Navy for four years and United States Marine Corps for nineteen years, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.
After retiring from the military, Jerry was employed by Interlake Manufacturing for seventeen years until retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1391. Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and relaxing on the porch with his dogs, Buffy and Sandy. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene; his children, Jerry (Salena) Ferg Jr., Liz (Craig) Hogan, Bunny (Terry) Arnsdorf, Richard (Kathleen) Ferg; daughter-in-law, Sharon Ferg; five grandchildren; stepmother, Nancy Ferg; brothers and sisters, Ronald (Mardell) Ferg, Phyllis (Ken) Buss, Dennis (Marilyn) Ferg, Donald (Linda) Taskonis, Joel (Sharon) Taskonis, Philip Taskonis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim (Nancy) Hamilton, Marge (Don) Anderson, Laurie Taskonis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Ferg; brothers, Harold Jr. and Roger Taskonis; and brother-in-law, George Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 9000 Washington Ave., on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel from 10 a.m. until time of service.
