Diane M. Komenkul, age 58, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. Diane was born in the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, on May 15, 1953, daughter of the late Robert and Gwendolyn (nee: Crowell) Friedgen.
A very active child, Diane enjoyed sports of all kinds as well as a variety of arts and crafts offered by the local park system. On October 4, 1972, she received a blue belt in Kenpo (Kung-Fu) Karate. She met the love of her life, Kasem “Sam” Komenkul, in April 1971 while on a blind date with her friends at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. On May 13, 1971, she graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood, CA. She attended Cerritos College for two years and received a degree of “Associate in Arts” for Business-Secretary.
On January 26, 1973, Diane was united in marriage to Kasem “Sam” Komenkul. She gave birth to three boys, and lived happily in Southern California for 21 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam. Following Sam’s death, Diane moved to Racine to be closer to her sister. She was employed with Wheaton-Franciscan-All Saints for the past fifteen years where she was a very dedicated employee and dearly loved by all her co-workers. She left an impression of a woman who was completely selfless, always putting the needs of others above her own. She was also a keen observer of all details, making sure everything she did was perfect. To her co-workers, friends and family, she possessed a wit and loving soul that was all her own. When she was not working, Diane found some time for reading, sewing, swimming, crossword puzzles and travel. She was a loving and generous woman. Diane was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed. But we find comfort in that she will be reunited with the love of her life, Sam.
Survivors include her three loving sons, Jason (Melanie) Komenkul and their children Harlon and Lorelei, all of Provo, Utah, Brian Komenkul and Christopher “Kit” Komenkul, both of Racine; her sister, Sheila (Steve) Flox of Racine; her dearly loved goddaughters, Karen Komenkul of Los Angeles, CA, and Katherine Santavanond of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 3, 2011, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
