Sylvia Jacobson Rosenzweig died on May 21 in Long Island, New York, where she had lived for the last ten years. Born in Racine, on May 2, 1914, Sylvia was the youngest and the last surviving child of Blume and Jacob Jacobson. Her family owned and operated Jacobson's Department Store in Racine for over 60 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Rosenzweig, as well as her siblings, Ada Wolfe, Rae Jacobson, Leah Feldman, Joseph Jacobson, Ann Schwartz and William Jacobson.
Sylvia was a member of Beth Israel Sinai Congregation and Hadassah and was a devotee of bridge, which she continued to enjoy through the New York Times bridge column when she could no longer play. Sylvia graduated from St. Catherine's High School and the University of Arizona after first attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Linda Lohrius (Steven); her son, Gary Rosenzweig (Ilene); grandchildren, Joshua Lohrius, Sarah Lillis, Mark and Rachel Rosenzweig; and her great-grandchildren, Gracie Lohrius and Max Lillis; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered at a graveside service at the Racine Jewish Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, May 24, at 11 am. Donations to Beth Israel Sinai Congregation or a charity of your choice will be appreciated.
