Mrs. Irene M. Bakken, 79, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
Irene was born in Summit, South Dakota, to the late Lloyd and Ruth (nee: Crook) Chamley on April 13, 1932. She lived in Racine most of her life. She was united in marriage to her soul-mate, Marlowe P. Bakken, on October 28, 1950.
Mrs. Bakken believed in the Baptist faith. She loved spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed polka dancing, embroidery, crochet and gospel music.
Irene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Marlowe; two sons, Mike and Pete Bakken; four daughters, Cindy, Cheri and Roxanne Bakken and Michele (Troy) Hansen; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wally Chamley.
Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Please direct memorials to the Salvation Army.
